As I sit here trying to take everything in that I now have to do in my life I am wondering if I have made the right decision to start studying at this stage of my life. My life is busy enough without making things even harder for myself. Hopefully this will get easier with the support of my family and as I manage my time better. At the end it will all be worth it – won’t it?
Is this right for me?

I'm a working Mum who is now studying Bachelor of Accounting at 44. I must be crazy!! It is now 2024 and I am 50 years old and fingers crossed will finish my degree in October 2024. View all posts by mandyp73

Hey Amanda, I hope you learn to manage your time too. I have to do the same, as for this quote “I’m a working Mum who is now studying Bachelor of Accounting at 44 I must be crazy!!”, its never too late to study or learn. Have a great time studying.

Hi Mandy,
Don’t worry you are not alone! I had the same thoughts when I started this term (my first term) it appears to feel – I wouldn’t say easier – more manageable the more I study. Trick for me is shutting my brain off and focusing on study. Best wishes with your study.

I was sitting in your position a couple of years ago thinking ‘WHAT HAVE I DONE?!’ But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and I know it’s been worth it. With a supportive family you’ll do great!

Your honestly in questioning why is really admirable Mandy.
Everything comes at a cost – not just financial, but time, relationships, other interests and of course housework. Cost vs benefit analysis is what a business would be doing. In a sense you’re doing that by focussing on the end result in asking if it’s worth it. Only you can work this out, with your family. In the meantime, really great to be able to engage with you through your blog.
What we (particularly others in this unit who are in a similar position, and there are many) can offer is encouragement to help you believe you can do this. I’m 50 and starting my first degree. I’m surprised by how many mature age students there are in this unit who are juggling responsibilities and then throwing uni on top. Not sure how else we can help, but if you think of something just ask through your blog. Hopefully someone will be able to assist.
Hope you can stick with us and enjoy the ride. I’m already getting so much out of this unit. Looking forward to more in time to come.
Cheers.

Hi Mandy,
Thanks for introducing yourself and being brave with sharing your concerns. I’m sure we’ll all do a great job with the course, and will get better and more confident as we go, as with learning any new skill 🙂
Have you had a chance to jump on PeerWise? A great way to interact with the learning process and give yourself a confidence boost when you get those questions right and earn badges.
If you have any questions throughout the course, please don’t hesitate to ask. There’s no such thing as a silly question.
Cheers,
Kit

Hi Mandy, It seems like there are a few of us questioning ourselves at the moment. Like you I’m wondering why I have done this to myself. Then I think I would be more disappointed if I didn’t give it a go. Enjoy!
